HUMANLY POSSIBLE
Exploring the Art In the Artificial
Revealing the Art In the Artificial
Humanly Possible blurs the line between object and being, perception and reality. At first glance, we observe a poised, stoic female figure—flawless but oblique. Yet, almost immediately, doubt intrudes: Is she truly lifeless, or does some trace of sentience flicker beneath the surface?
Through shifts in perspective and focal length, coupled with cinematic lighting, I attempt to coax a preternatural expressiveness from the inanimate figure. We intuit the subject’s ambiguity and languor, feeling the weight of her gaze that alternates between disquiet, inquisition, and disapproval. She asks: Am I, as a human proxy, alluring or unsettling?
Ultimately, Humanly Possible, dwells in the enigmatic tension between allusion and actuality, exploiting our willingness to suspend belief. —J Heroun
