FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Dating & lifestyle portraiture for Boston
Authentic, confident images make a strong first impression. In the world of modern dating, the rules of engagement are unequivocal: photos must be straightforward, genuine, and unstaged. That means avoiding clichéd poses, hiding behind sunglasses, or wearing extravagant outfits. The real trick is creating the illusion of spontaneity and insouciance — a tall order for most of us who feel anything but comfortable under the camera’s scrutiny.
Having captured thousands of frames for private clients and trusted by top-tier matchmakers like Dating by Blaine and Three Day Rule as the premier provider of lifestyle photography for dating in New England, I intuitively understand that the ‘money shots’ happen in the in-between moments when you are completely unguarded. That freedom to be expressive, lively, and approachable — someone who is a joy to be with — is what makes a powerful impression. It allows potential matches to easily project themselves into your life.
This is where my experience as an art director makes a crucial difference. With years of experience editing imagery for magazine profiles, my eye for selecting the ideal frames from hundreds of outtakes is finely honed. I build visual narratives for my clients the same way I would for an editorial magazine feature.
Even the most camera-shy clients usually walk away expressing relief at how frictionless and enjoyable the session was. We all know the unspoken rule: dating images shouldn’t look staged, even if it’s assumed you hired a professional. But it ceases to be a concern when the final photos project true sincerity, good humor, and the absence of pretense.
How We Work Together
Scheduling: When you reach out, the first step is aligning my session openings with your availability.
The Consultation: We’ll jump on a brief phone call to get acquainted, discuss your objectives, and answer any questions. This conversation helps me discover the personal passions or interests we might organically integrate into your shoot.
Location & Wardrobe: We’ll exchange ideas for locations and discuss your wardrobe. Unless flamboyance is genuinely your brand, it’s best to aim for elevated casual—think of how you’d dress for a weekend brunch at an upscale eatery. Business attire suggests the workday, which creates a psychological barrier for someone trying to imagine a romantic connection.
Wardrobe Curation: After reviewing your wardrobe options, I’ll offer suggestions to round out your looks. If you want extra guidance, personal shopper services are also available. (For tips on wardrobe and more, see my booklet Love at First Swipe!)
The Session: For both online profiles and matchmakers, 5 to 6 final images are optimal. We aim for a variety of looks, settings, and moods. Sessions typically average 60 to 90 minutes on location. Because all but one or two shots will be close-ups or framed from the waist up, we’ll focus heavily on tops, shirts, and jackets, which are easy to swap on location.
On the day of the shoot, I arrive with a clear plan for optimal lighting, usually during the golden hour late in the day. Together, we’ll stroll, talk, and take things as they come, staying alert to spontaneous opportunities. Any pre-shoot anxiety quickly melts away, resulting in images that feel relaxed, unforced, and relatable. The vibe is simply that of a good friend capturing great photos of you while hanging out.
Each session is designed to capture a presence rather than a series of poses. The goal isn’t to manufacture a fictional version of you, but to reveal one that feels genuine and compelling — communicating approachability, self-assurance, and personal style.
Delivery, Authenticity & Straightforward Pricing
Your digital gallery will arrive in your inbox typically within 48 hours, featuring a wide edit of web-optimized, high-resolution images. To maintain absolute authenticity, retouching is limited to temporary blemishes. I ask that clients refrain from requesting physical alterations or digital embellishments; your matches want to meet the real you.
The investment for the entire experience — including the pre-shoot consultations, the 60-to-90-minute location session, and the backend curation — is $850. Unlike traditional photography models that hook you with a low baseline fee only to gatekeep your photos and charge you by the frame, I believe in complete transparency. Dating is stressful enough without forcing extra financial decisions or image-selection anxiety upon you. Your investment includes the full, curated digital gallery with unrestricted usage rights. You are completely free to use your images across LinkedIn, professional branding, or personal projects without copyright penalties or upcharges.
